Welcome to Troop 231's web site. Please feel free to look around.
We are a ministry of Grace Fellowship Church.
Our Scout program is aimed at boys ages 11-18. It provides boys a chance to be in the outdoors and have fun while developing character, citizenship, and fitness. Our outdoor activities include camping, hiking, kayaking, climbing, and bicycling. Check out our Photo Gallery for pictures of our last fun event.
Troop meetings are each Monday night 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted in the calendar of events) at the Scout Hut (lower level in the back) across the street from the church.
Contact Scoutmaster David Cowan at 678-521-0353 for more information.

Words of wisdom from our Scoutmaster...
Scoutmaster's Minutes and Other Thoughts
Scout Spirit
As a scoutmaster I review the scout's "scout spirit" at each advancement Scoutmaster Conference. But what is "scout spirit"
The first measure is the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan. I wish I could ask each mom as the scout best expresses his scout spirit at home. But without that input I look at his relationships with his patrol leader and senior patrol leader. Is he quick to respond to expressed needs, does he look for opportunities to support the patrol efforts - Helpful, kind, obedient, "help others at all time" are best demonstrated in these relationships.
Next I look to relationships with new scouts - friendly, pride in the scout skills and in the troop are best seen as he reaches out to these new troop members. This current group of new scouts are the greatest and what a great opportunity to be a good scout in helping them.
The last thing I look at and the item I trust least is the scouts relationship with the leaders.

Comments from the Chair
Annual Family Campout 5/2/08
Our annual family planning event was memorable for many reasons this year. Many parents camped out one or both nights in scenic and beautiful northeast Georgia at Victoria Bryant State Park. The parents, children, and Scouts who attended got to know each other. We had a comprehensive parents meeting Saturday afternoon around the fire pit, fire not required due to the pleasant temperatures. Saturday night, we held a Court of Honor and recognized the boys advancement efforts. This was around a fire. It closed with a memorable flag retirement ceremony. Thanks to David Nolan, we dined on amazing, creative food at each meal.
Some of the pictures are available by clicking on Photo Gallery in the Site Navigation Menu on the left.
If you missed this one, we will be closer to home in 2009, when we plan to be back at Simpsonwood.
Notes from the parents meeting are attached in the "read more..." link below. Please review to become current with what is happening in out troop. Note where opportunities exist for parents to volunteer to do a task or engage in a committee role. We have an immediate need for Secretary and/or Forms Coordinator, and Equipment Coordinator. Contact Mike Coe with comments, questions, or to volunteer. :)read more...

Chaplain Comments
"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deut 6:5-7

Training Talk - Monday, April 5, 2008
Got Training?
A new Boy Scout means a new opportunity for a parent to become a registered, trained Adult Leader. Check out our Adult Training page under Parents in the "Site Navigation" window on the left side of this page.
There are opportunities for you, and needs we need to fill, as an Assistant Scoutmaster or a Troop Committee member. Ask any ASM or Troop Committee member, or contact Linda Strow.
